Mary’s journey is a powerful story of resilience in the face of adversity. At just six years old, she lost her father to a short illness, leaving her mother to raise her and her five siblings on her own. Her mother, a petty trader, struggled to provide for them, living from hand to mouth with little to no support from extended family members. The family faced even greater hardship when they lived in an area prone to flooding, near a neglected drainage system in Israel Ayigbe Junction. During the rainy season, these floods damaged their home, and in 2014, severe flooding destroyed much of their belongings, leaving the family with nothing.

This hardship took a toll on her mother’s mental and physical health, and eventually, she fell ill and passed away after being denied care at the hospital due to financial constraints. At such a young age, Mary and her siblings had no choice but to work odd jobs to survive. Despite the overwhelming challenges, Mary’s resilience, her siblings’ support, and their shared faith helped her persevere through it all. She remained determined to make the most of any opportunity she had.

With the support of her siblings and the help of other generous people, Mary graduated from St. John’s Grammar School in 2015, having pursued General Arts. Although she faced difficulties with Mathematics, Mary refused to give up. She retook the mathematics exam three times and is now awaiting the results, demonstrating her unyielding commitment to achieving her academic goals.

Mary aspires to further her education in either Nursing or a business-related field. However, financial constraints stand in her way.
